QuickBooks Desktop's Slow Sunset — What It Means If You're Still on Pro or Premier

Intuit quietly stopped selling QuickBooks Desktop Pro and Premier to new customers back in September 2024. If you already had a license, nothing changed overnight — but the direction was clear from that point on.

Support for QuickBooks Desktop 2023 ended May 31, 2026. That means no more payroll updates, no more payments processing, no more live technical support, no more online backup, and no more bank feeds for those installs. If you're still running an old version, you're on your own for all of it.

Enterprise is the one edition Intuit is still actively selling and supporting. If you're on Pro or Premier and you depend on any of the services that just got cut off, staying on Desktop at all really means moving to Enterprise.

The alternative Intuit would rather you take is QuickBooks Online. That's a real option for plenty of businesses — but if you're running real inventory, job costing, or the kind of tracking a distribution business actually needs, it's a harder trade than the marketing makes it sound.

None of this is a reason to panic. It's a reason to actually check where you stand instead of assuming QuickBooks means the same thing it did five years ago. If you're already on Enterprise, you're fine for now. If you're not, it's worth a real conversation with whoever handles your books before a service you rely on just stops working.

This is exactly the kind of decision point where it's worth knowing what your actual options are — for the accounting side, and for everything upstream of it that isn't accounting at all.
